After Earth

8 out of 10

After Earth is a 2013 American science fiction action adventure film written by Gary Whitta and M. Night Shyamalan whom also was the director. The story line was based on an original story idea by Will Smith, who also stars in the film along side his son Jaden Smith. Will Smith also was the producer via his company Overbrook Entertainment, distributed by Columbia Pictures. Originally released on May 31, 2013, it received negative reviews from critics and was considered a summer flop in North America. The film performed unexpectedly well in Europe and was a commercial success.

Like most science fiction movies, this movie takes place mostly on the ground. The idea behind the movie is interesting, unique and the scenes in spaces are inspiring and rich. Recommended for any scifi fan or anyone that enjoys a coming of age movie. Definitely worth a watch.

A crash landing leaves Kitai Raige and his father Cypher stranded on Earth, a millennium after events forced humanity's escape. With Cypher injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help.
